Virtual Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon

Virtual Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon
Friday, April 3, 2020
10 a.m. - 8 p.m. PST

As a virtual closing event for the exhibition The Medea Insurrection: Radical Women Artists Behind the Iron Curtain, we invite you to join us for a virtual Wikipedia edit-a-thon to help build a better record of the artists in the current exhibition. This is the Wende's second edit-a-thon in conjunction with The Medea Insurrection, and both past participants and new ones are welcome to join in. No Wikipedia experience necessary. People of all gender expressions and identities are encouraged to attend.

How to Participate

  • Create a Wikipedia account (anonymous usernames recommended) and log in to the Wende’s Virtual Event Dashboard to participate from home. The dashboard will display the number of edits being made—watch as the numbers grow!
  • Learn how Wikipedia works by watching tutorial videos—it’s easier than you think!
  • Edit, update, and create Wikipedia articles related to art, gender, and intersectional feminism, with a focus on women artists in the exhibition The Medea Insurrection. Or edit on whichever topic you know best!

Looking for somewhere to start? Check out our list of available articles on the artists in The Medea Insurrection. You can also explore other women artists on Black Lunch Table’s Task List and Art + Feminism’s Task List. A great way to start editing is by adding citations and links to other articles on Wikipedia. If you have more time, consider adding a well-cited paragraph to an article.

Tools for Editing

More videos and advanced editing tutorials (including more Spanish language resources) can be found in Art+Feminism’s editing kit.
