September 15, 2013 | 4 PM

The Wende Museum, in collaboration with The Czech Consulate’s annual The Mutual Inspiration Festival, screened Vaclav Havel’s directorial debut Leaving (2011). This film is based on Havel’s play of the same name, which in turn is inspired by William Shakespeare’s tragic King Lear and Anton Chekhov’s play The Cherry Orchard. The film is about an aging leader, who is facing an uncertain future. It examines themes of waning power and the difficulty of change. A reception will follow the screening.

The Czech Consulate’s program initiative focuses on the mutual inspirations between Czech and American cultures. For more information, click here.
