FOUNDERS’ CIRCLE
Alwin Nachtweh and Ulrike Wolf
The creation of the Museum was in large part inspired by German activist Alwin Nachtweh’s passion for preservation of Cold War history. Alwin, a fierce opponent of communism, along his longtime partner, Ulrike Wolf, possessed what became the initial core of what is now a world-class collection of historically significant items relating to East Germany. These and other items were later transferred to the Museum so that they could be safe-guarded for present and future generations.

ARCADIA
In February 2004, The Lisbet Rausing Charitable Fund - Now Arcadia - awarded to The Wende Museum a seminal development grant enabling the Museum to substantially expand its effort to identify, acquire and preserve significant cultural artifacts and archives from communist Eastern Europe. As a result of the Fund’s commitment, the Museum has achieved remarkable success in saving endangered objects and documents and providing scholars and students with access to these resources. VOLUNTEERS
The constant and enthusiastic support of the Museum’s volunteers is the reason for the Museum’s success. Many of the volunteers have been involved with the Museum from its inception. As the Museum continues to grow and attract new volunteers, we will always be grateful to those who sacrificed time and money to ensure that this project thrived. Thank you for making this dream a reality: Jill Buresh, Lucas Cooter, Don Gibson, Harriet Glickman, Michelle Healey, Simonne Horwitz, Alan Jampol, Nicolas Jampol, Robin Jampol, Thaddeus Jampol, Polly Jones, Sandy Mermelstein, Jakob Metzner, Neal Narahara, Vaughn Obern, Dan Picciotto

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
The Wende Museum maintains a thriving internship program with UCLA. Prospective interns are asked to submit a recent resume and visit the Museum for an interview. Students are offered course credit for their work and, in some instances, a stipend. For more information, contact Yelena Kravtsova (ykravtsova@wendemuseum.org).
