Past Program: The Spy Who Wasn’t: A West Berlin Journalist in the Grip of the State Secret Police
Thursday, May 27, 2010 – 6-9 PM Join us for the German film critic and historian Gero Gandert’s talk about his run-in with the East German State Secret Police (STASI). Gandert asked “critical” questions at a press conference on DEFA in 1958 and after writing about the Film Festival in Karlovy Vary for the Ministry for All German Questions, he was arrested by the STASI, charged with “agitating against the state,” and convicted to three years of solitary confinement. The talk is preceded by a Museum tour at 6pm and followed by a reception at 8pm. Sponsored by the Villa Aurora and Goethe-Institut Los Angeles
Programs at The Wende Museum are free of charge, unless otherwise noted.
