Streets, squares and parks carried the names of Friedrich Engels, Rosa Luxemburg or Ernst Thälmann, keeping the memory of the socialist ideogogues alive. The name of a street was subject to changing political agendas, as in the case of East Berlin’s Stalinallee East Germany’s most prestigious socialist boulevard. Stalinallee was renamed Karl-Marx Allee on November 13,1961, during the de-Stalinization process in the GDR.
